While some teams put their players in a couple different helmet models (Duke uses Brine, old Warrior, and new Warrior helmets) that all look the same, the Loyola Hounds take a different approach. Everyone wears the exact same helmet, but when it comes to gloves… forget about it. Wear whatever you want! I am ALL for this approach.

If you count goalie gloves as different gloves, Loyola has consistently had SIX different mittens being worn in games… and that is definitely the highest number in the country. In the main photo alone you can see FIVE different types of gloves. Want to see them laid out a bit more simply? Ok.
No one has that kind of glove game diversity… NO ONE!
Ok, now back to the important stuff! Loyola won again this weekend, and should remain near the top of the all the polls, but it wasn’t easy. Army came to town and the teams did battle on the lacrosse field for the first time since 1943. Frankly, I don’t see how that is possible, but it’s true!
Loyola won the game 7-6 to stay perfect in the Patriot. John Glessner had two goals on Loyola’s Joe Fletcher, but Glessner had to take 22 shots to get those 2 markers. THAT is a match up I’d love to see some film on! Sounds exciting. You can see some video highlights on Loyola’s site. Justin Ward had three assists and Nikko Pontrello and Kevin Ryan had two goals apiece to lead the Hounds.
Here are a couple more shots from the game, all courtesy of Craig Chase.
6-1 Loyola travels to Georgetown on March 19th. 4-3 Army faces off with 6-2 Lehigh in West Point, NY on March 22nd.
